Miniature Creations In Wood

Special Kits & Full Kits

Models:

1. Full Kits

Most materials are available in local hobby and craft stores.

The large  kits will include all the above small kit parts as per the plans and all the material required to build your model.

Some materials on the list may have been combined to facilitate the purchase.
An example is a 1/16" X 2" X 24" to make 4 of 1/16"X 1" X 8".
These are not shown as combined parts on the list, study the plan and the list before you start.

Plan your cuts and review the list of material before starting, we cannot be responsible for a shortage due to lack of planning in the selection of material for the parts required. As a rule, anything where the width is more than 3/8" or is odd shaped would combined in a larger or wider piece such as a 2" wide piece.

All kits include:
1. All the uncut rough materials as needed.
2. Special parts are included as per model.
3. The Plan.
4. The parts list.

Basic tools

Smaller pieces such as headlights, are often the cut out scrap from bigger pieces. Don't discard the cut -outs until you are finished.

I   try to create the plans to suite materials that are readily available everywhere.

Some material can be used as substitute they are found everywhere and often easy and cheap to acquire. Here are a few examples:

  1. Wood coffee stir sticks are generally 1/16" X 1/4".
  2. Wood Popsicle sticks are 1/16" X
    3/8".
  3. Wood tongue depressors are 1/16" X 5/8".
  4. Regular round toothpicks are 3/32" dia. beveled ends.
  5. Mint flavored toothpicks are 5/64" dia. beveled ends ( perfect for tracks).
  6. Scented Cedar strips sold in 1 foot length to hang in the closets are 5/16" or 3/8" thick. These are great for very small parts.

In many cases the bevel end toothpick is great when assembling items such as tracks for your dozer or mirror frames.

Some parts such as engine blocks can be made out of a single large piece of wood such as 2 X 4 , if you have the power tools.

2. Special Kits

The small kits consist of parts that would require shop equipment to make, such as a bench saw, a drill press or a band saw.

The table indicates the list of parts required per model plan.

Some parts may vary in size or type of wood depending on availability of materials. The substitute will complement the plans.

The steering wheel, if needed, is made from a 5/8" dowel with a 3/8" hole 1/8" thick.

All parts need finishing and hand sanding.

Small wheels require that you make the 16 hub 1/8"  holes. Only the recess and axle holes are made.

Cylinders are bored but don't include the piston rods. Some pistons are longer than needed and need cutting to lengths as per plans.
